5th December is Ghantasala's Birthday. A birthday of Telugu cinema
song. Nearly, more than 25 years, Telugu cinema was floated parallel to
his golden voice. It's said to be the fortune of Telugu cinema for having
such a nice singer cum composer who undoubtedly ruled the South Indian Cinema
with his heart touching voice and mesmarzing music. Who else can be compared
with this legend? There was no comparison to maastaru when you talk about play back
singers. Not only the art in Mastaaru, but also behaviour and personality made
him legend for ever in Andhravani. Being an excellent playback singer, he
happened to refuse to give his voice for another Gana brahma Sri Chittori V
Nagayya garu.
Sri Ghantasala garu, himself claimed that Nagayya garu as his cine
guru. His only worry was how can he lend his voice to such a great
singer cum. A true sishya never ever wants to shame his guru by dominating
him.Mastaru did the same. After so many requests cum respectable orders
from his guru,finally he sang for Sri Nagayya garu. Ghantasala garu started
his career with Swargaseema in which he lent his voice to Sri Ch.Narayana
rao garu. NTR,ANR were the two most popular heros of those days who must
share their success to Sri Maastaru.
He had no Igo's to sing with other singers. He sang with Sri
Pittapuram, Madhavapeddi, PBS etc..He encouraged SPB from the
beginging. SPB still remembers the affection shown on him by Sri Ghantasala garu.
Not only film music,he did justice to Private albums too. His patriotic
nature made him to sing many patriotic songs. Sri Karunasri 'Pushpa
vilapam' had been sung exceptionally well. In his last days,he took the
responsibility of releasing Bhagavad Geeta cassette. HIs only wish was,essence of
Bhagavad Geeta must be understood by every common (Wo)man in Andra.
We know that how Industry is remembering him now.It's very sad to see
no Silavigraham of Sri Mastaru anywhere near to Film Industry or anywhere
in AP. He brought reconginition to Telugu cinema, but Telugu cinema does
nothing to him now. One must be respectable to their path finders.
Today's a real festival for Telugu cinema music lovers. Enjoy the whole
day by listening to the songs of Sri Mastaru. This is the only way that we
can give something to him on his birthday anniversery.
Let us hope that by his next anniversery Industry
will do something on the name of ever green Gana Gandharva Sri Gantasaala garu.
