TOLLYWOOD CINE LINGO
Lingos introduced by the Telugu Film Industry to the Telugu people
Movies are one of the favorite topics that people love to talk about all over the world. You have any family occasion at home, a get together with your friends, a chat with your neighbour , browsing your favorite idlebrain.com or any other occasion, movies find their way surreptitiously into your discussion. You greet your friends with common filmi lingo's like "Namaste Anna", pull each others leg saying "Aa nakkale voddi babai" and even threaten somebody saying "Rangu paduddi". But have we ever realized that we are using the phrases that have never been seen in the lexicon, Why?? 'coz they were introduced to the Telugu people by the Telugu film industry.

The basic purpose of introducing lingos into the film is to provoke laughter from the audience and this trend started right from the days when Telugu movies started hitting the theatres. Audience in the theatre allow a smile to pass through their face when the actor on the screen says something like "Ade mana thakshana kartavyam". We can categorize these lingos broadly into four groups which are mythological, folklore, class and mass.

Let us start with mythological phrases. Mythological phrases usually find their movies in which actors like CSR Anjaneyulu ( He Raajan ), SV Ranga Rao ( Saahasam Seyara Dimbaka), R.Nageshwara Rao ( Thakshana kartavyam) etc act. One thing to notice is, in those days these phrases were usually used by character artistes and not by heroes or heroines. The popularity of these phrases can be judged by the fact that even to this date some people use them very frequently in their conversations. The second category though not very popular still exists, some of the lingos introduced were by soothsayer characters ( or koya dora) like kurro kurru or Amba Paluku Jagadamba Paluku.

The next group is the phrases that are liked by the "class" section of the audience. This phrases are normally written in Telugu but sometimes words from other languages are also mixed to get the needed effect. Some phrases that fall into this category are "expect chesa", " em decide chesinavu " "Help ante Jagan…..jaganante help" . Some phrases like "Anthoddu….idhi chaalu", etc. fall into this "class" category. In these days usually these phrases are delivered by the hero to the audience.

The last of the category are the phrases that are liked by the "mass" section of the audience. By all fair means, these are the phrases that are the most popular and get into the common lingos as soon as the movie gets released. Popular heroes like Chiru, Nag etc usually use these phrases in their movies to attract the "mass" likers. Some of the popular phrases are " Face turning icchuko", "box baddalai poddi", "summu surraipoddi", "enti aa wiring", etc etc can be heard whenever we travel in a bus, chat in a canteen etc.

Whatever may be the category and who ever may be the artiste who delivers them on the screen, these common lingos will stay as long as Telugu movies are loved by the audience.
