This Film was directed by Chittajallu Pullaiah (C.Pulliah).

C.Pullaih was born in 1898 in Kakinada. He joined Sri Raghupathi Venkaiah's Star of East film studious at the tender age. In 1933 EastIndia Film Company asked him to direct the film Savitri. Then along with Venkaiah's son Prakash he did lot of experiments. At that time, as there were no proper labs , they used to wash the film in the bath tubs. He brought the films to the commoners by showing the films for free on a wall painted with white color . For over a decade he directed 'Lava Kusha','Sati Anasuya' Dhruva Vijayam', 'ChalMohanaranga', 'Kasulaperu', 'Satyanarayana vratam', 'Mohini Bhasmasuram', 'Malatimadhavam', 'Vara Vikrayam' (Bhanumathi's debut film), 'Balanagamma' etc., In 1938 alone he made some short films like Kasulaperu and Chalmohanaranga. But at that time people used to like the movies for the length of three hours , so they didn't like these short films.

LAVAKUSA was first made in bengali by Devaki Bose based on a famous stage play. Prithivi Raj Kapoor played Lord Rama's role. In telugu Parupalli Subba Rao played Rama's role and senior Sriranjini played Sita's role. Balejepalli wrote the songs for this movie.

This film became a huge success. People used to come in bullock carts from villages in groups to see this movie. Lavakusa made a history at that time.

After 25 years in 1958 Lalitha Sivajyothi films made this film with the same director, but this time he was assisted by his son C.S.Rao (Chittajallu Srinivas Rao). In this film NTR and Anjali played the roles of Lord Rama and Sita. This is the first telugu color film. In tamil, Alibaba 40 dongalu was the first color film starring MGR and Bhanumathi. After seeing that film , Pullaih wanted to make a color film in Telugu . So along with his son he made this film. But it was delayed and released in 1965.

In 1936 he made 'Anasuya Druva'. In this movie all the roles were played by children . At that time most of the films like Sumpoorana Ramayanam,Seeta kalyanam etc., were made based on Ramayana . In 1950 S.Bhavanarayana made Vaali-Sugreeva. In this film Tota Venkateshwara Rao and Maddali Krishna murthy played Rama and laxman, S.Varalaxmi as Sita and she shined as a star. For this film five music directors gave the music. Pendyala, Gali Penchala, Rajeshwara Rao,Ghantasala and another person worked on the music for this film.
