CHENCHU LAKSHMI
Chenchu Lakshmi (1943)
Anr

Entry of CH.Narayana Rao as a hero made Nagaiah switch to character roles slowly. This started with B.N.Reddy's Swargaseema. In that film Naggaih loses Bhanumati to a younger hero Narayana Rao.

Ch.Narayana Rao has a romantic personality. He was introduced by DCH Kameshwara Rao in the film Jeevana jyothi (1940) with Krishna veni as his heroine. Then he did a small role in Devata (B.N.Reddy's) and next he did Deenabhandu as a hero.

For this film Samudrala (songs and screenplay), Jiten Benarjee (photography), Dinsha K.Tehrani (sound recording) worked. Nagaiah is the sika leader, Narayana Rao is Vishnu, Kamala kotni is Chenchu Laxmi,( she is an upcoming artist at that time) Rushyendramani as Adilaxmi and Lanka Satyam acted in a comedy role.

Lanka Satyam started his career with the movie 'Amma' (which was never released), then he acted in Barister Parvateesam (which was a flop). Tarashasankam (a small role), then in Y.V.Rao's Vishwa mohini where he played assistant to Nagaiah which brought him good recognition. He also played in Gemini's Jeevana mukthi and Balanagamma (washerman's role). After Chenchulaxmi, later in some movies Kasturi Sivarao and Relangi imitated him to a great extent.

This is the first movie, which was made simultaneously in tamil and telugu at the same time. The main assets of the movie are Naggaiah's music, CH. Narayana Rao's personality, Kamala kotni's dances, dignified action by Rusyendramani makes this film memorable.

Later one more version of Chenchu Laxmi was released starring ANR and Anjali Devi.
